Design a laser distance calculator

This design of possible useful device to estimate distance of object in front of you is inspired by pair of human eyes. But abnormal modus operandi is followed. Here rotation of one laser light is oppositely transmitted to another laser light so that both lasers point to same location (parallel represents infinity). So by changing angle swiftly slowly and steadily we can bring two laser points to same location on surface of object which is your target. We need some mechanical watch kind of gearing system to rotate both lasers in opposite sense and there should be a digital display of value of distance as per our simple trigonometric relation. 




Thought - Display can be updated on instant to instant basis because anyway we know that two laser points are always pointing at some location. That location may not be of your interest. So whenever angle is set so that you have pointed both laser dots on same location on the surface of object of your interest, you will get your reading. Otherwise the moment even a slight angle is turned by lasers it starts giving distance of some point in space.


Now I want people to think about a way to set one tiny sensor which may report that yes two dots are falling in place then I can tell you the way to keep rotating lasers to get the distance data of immediate surrounding objects. Because I know the same concept is going to help the machine develop a sense of existence of surrounding objects. So that it may one day learn to live with us.

  1. Join me by reading me, to learn to use your body mechanically. We can solve the mechanics of human existence in this 3d universe, right here. But time is big constraint to realize my extreme fantasy of ultimate robotics. Seamless connection of software intelligence to drive electromagnetic energy inside a machine so that one day machine may start behaving like humans.

    Because software intelligence, with access and control, to some reliable source of energy, can replace myself completely. Now comes the body. Because I know I am not my body. I am my mind. One source of energy is connected to my body. As long as my mind can use that source of energy, I can use my body by driving energy into it. What I am doing right now is that I am neglecting the process to keep up the energy level inside my body. This way I can get rid of this whole complication of flesh and blood. So I want my mechanical replica to use only electromagnetic energy to show up its all mechanical abilities.
    Hence software intelligence clubbed with power source will use mechanical replica of mine. This mechanical design is already with us after evolution of so many years. Human body. Copy it mechanically. forget the flesh and blood. Believe me bone structure is just mechanical. People involved in animation industry know it well. Problem with animation people is that they do not have access to gravity that easily. But in real life we have gravity. Always active gravity in our real life, is big advantage of real world than virtual world. In reality even a two year old child knows the dynamics human body, because it is so easy. Two years old child knows gravity. Because just knowing the gravity is enough to use it. Everything falls down till it encounters some solid surface to hold it.

    Now we have wheel to learn to move. If you know a little physics of our walking. Then think now carefully, that humans use friction exactly the same way as one rotating wheel uses it to move your car forward. Keep thinking until you visualize two virtual parts of wheels in place of your lower leg. Now pivot the centers of these incomplete wheels (angle part from center) at the bottom end of your upper leg. Now think about rotating these two wheels alternately. But every time rotation is only a part of complete rotation. Think about alternate oscillatory rotations. Dont you see yourself walking. If you are unable to understand then watch yourself more carefully.

    Human body is most wonderful machine with us right now. Technology has advanced to a level to copy it now. So start copying yourself till you get you.
    This is ultimate science of robotics which can handle everything that one human can. But humans will find it difficult to digest initially. But slowly people will learn. Some day my fantasy of machine age will become a reality.

Anyone who comes forward to make this laser distance calculator as one good quality device, then be sure that you can develop this component further in future to make one eye that can be used to drive the car or to do anything which requires similar abilities. This further developed component will be treated as one important component of future devices.

  3. Laser distance calculator will require two quality laser sources to be pivoted at some separation and then equal and opposite rotation will be given by a motor. Final rotational velocity will be very very small and of very stable nature. Or you can say that based on requirement of accuracy we shall have to provide intermittent motion for example fixed amount of current is given to the circuit every say one tenth of a second in order to rotate laser by very small increment. So these values basically will determine the requirement of accuracy or least count of instrument.

    This current feed will be controlled through two touch switches. if you touch one panel then clockwise rotation and when you touch other panel then anti clockwise rotation. Touch interval will be tuned with requirement of least count of instrument.

    Since higher accuracy will result in slow rotations so we can provide variable least count. So that once you reach the spot of your choice then you can decrease least count to further tune up the result. So the trick is start with high least count to rotate faster then when you are about to reach the spot then decrease least count to set rotation very slowly to match as precise as possible.


    Now visualize we further modify this design to add one auto mode in which the device will itself rotate the laser to spot nearest surface in the line. Now go further by adding one logic circuit which turns on one led when distance of nearest surface is less than a pre decided value. This value itself can be a variable, to be set by user.

    Now understand that if this circuit can turn on one led when some object is closer than a pre decided value, then it can also trigger many other types of circuits based on requirements.


    So if you try to develop this device then you should have this idea that same concept with further complicated setup will exist in many futuristic conscious devices.
